In a strategic move to ensure the sustainability of its home and landlord insurance portfolios, Allianz has announced a reduction in broker commissions.
Effective from July 1, 2026, the maximum commission rate payable to brokers will decrease from 17.5% to 15%, with a further reduction to 12.5% slated for July 1, 2027.
This decision reflects Allianz's response to ongoing challenges such as increased natural catastrophe activity, rising claims costs, and prolonged high inflation.

Allianz's spokesperson highlighted the necessity of these changes, stating that the home and landlord portfolio has been significantly impacted by various factors, necessitating adjustments to maintain its viability. The insurer has communicated these forthcoming changes to its intermediary partners, emphasizing the importance of brokers in providing advocacy and tailored insurance solutions to customers.

To support brokers during this transition, Allianz is implementing enhancements to product coverage, technological capabilities, underwriting, and claims processes. These improvements aim to assist brokers in effectively serving home and landlord insurance clients amidst the evolving landscape.

This move by Allianz aligns with similar actions taken by other insurers, including CGU and Hollard, who have also reduced broker commissions in response to market pressures. The trend underscores a broader industry effort to balance operational sustainability with the provision of comprehensive insurance products.

For landlords, these changes may influence the dynamics of obtaining insurance coverage through brokers. It's advisable for property owners to engage in discussions with their brokers to understand how these commission adjustments might affect their insurance options and to explore the most suitable coverage for their properties.

Staying informed about such industry developments is crucial for landlords to ensure they maintain adequate protection for their investments in an ever-changing insurance market.
